Club Events:  Paul Harris Fellowship Award Night - April 30, 2013

Maya Warnock and The Excalibur ADHD Association
Maya Warnock, who was born in Ekenas, Finland and moved to Canada in 1967, was honoured on April 30, 2013 with Rotary’s highest award; A Paul Harris Fellowship. The award was bestowed on her for her work with the Excalibur ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Association.

Maya has an honours degree in English and an MBA in IT and a minor in accounting. She has also studied child psychology and development. She has been the driving force in the ADHD Association since its inception in March 2001.
The aim of the Excalibur ADHD Association is to provide programs that give children, youth and adults a quality experience that enhances their academic, social, and recreational growth. It offers value-added programs that guide and support all caregivers of people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Theyl allow people with ADHD from all levels of the society an opportunity to succeed.

The Rotary Club of Dartmouth is a supporter of Excalibur and has funded training for an ADHD coach. To learn more about the Association go to: http://excaliburadhd.org/

The Take Action Society
The Take Action Society was the first organization to receive a Paul Harris Fellowship from The Dartmouth Rotary Club. The Society was founded in 2009 and strives to create a stronger, healthier community and believes that through children, they can encourage a sense of belonging and pride that will make a difference today and in the future. The group has collected food to donate to the local food bank and raised funds to support Bryony House and Christmas Daddies. Society members have also participated in many community events including walk Against Violence, Harbourview Elementary School’s Christmas Concerts and Talent Shows, Pumpkin carving, Easter Egg hunts, seed planting and community yard sales.

The Society and the Dartmouth Rotary Club collaborated to design and construct a community garden and outdoor classroom behind Harbourview School. To learn more about this project visit: http://www.dartmouthrotary.ca/clubp_takeactionsociety.php
