On September 17th Melanie Sturk, Director of Organizational Development at Phoenix Youth Programs spoke at our weekly meeting. She gave a very informative talk on Phoenix and the programs it entails

Phoenix is a non-profit, community-based organization that serves Greater Halifax.  Since 1987, Phoenix has been dedicated to supporting youth between the ages of 11 and 24, their families, and communities across 10 locations in our city.  Their team of caring professionals recognizes that each person who comes to them has unique needs and personal strengths. They believe that people are the leaders in their own lives; Phoenix is a leader in supporting them.

Their mission is, together with the community, to support youth and families in their journey to thrive and to be a voice for social justice and community engagement.

Their programs serve 800 youths per year with a staff of 80 and approximately 130 volunteers. The activities encompass a wide range of topics including:  advocacy, youth outreach, community engagement, youth & family therapy, arts, recreation & leadership, money management, parent support, crisis support, health services, housing support, education and employment support.
