For the past decades, the Rotary Club of Dartmouth has sponsored two youth projects. These are the Bursary Awards at Dartmouth High School, and the Adventure in Citizenship experience led by the Ottawa Rotary Club

Each year, two students receive a $1,500 bursary based on the following criteria: financial need, personal integrity, volunteerism in the community/school, confirmation of post-secondary education, and a demonstrated personal credo of “Service before Self,” as evidenced by their voluntary involvement in their school and community. This year’s winners are Lily Peters, who will be attending Dalhousie University in a science program, and Julia MacKinnon, who will be attending NS Community College to study Business Administration.

Adventure in Citizenship

Since 1951, this program, organized by the Rotary Club of Ottawa, gives a unique opportunity for young Canadians to get together in Ottawa and gain a better understanding of our country. Over 5 days, through meetings with political leaders, officials, and experts, they learn about the workings of our democratic institutions.  Each year the Dartmouth Rotary Club sponsors a Grade 11 student from Dartmouth High School to attend. On their return, they speak about their experience, which is always so positive. This year’s participant was Juniper Richards.
