COMMIT Project (Nicaragua)

David Knoppert from the Hyde Park RC on London (ON) has been riding his stationary bike across Canada (virtually). This is in support a project in rural Nicaragua (COMMIT) which is in line with Rotary’s areas of focus.

COMMIT is a team of dedicated volunteers from Southwestern Ontario working under the umbrella of the Rotary Club of Stratford Charitable Foundation. Their team's mandate is to provide long-term support to some of the poorest villages in Nicaragua. The focus is to provide medical clinics, and other outreach services such as clean drinking water, sanitation, eco- friendly stoves, sustainable agriculture as well as educational and social support.

Doug Thompson has been a Rotarian for 43 yrs & has received 2 Paul Harris Fellowships. 
He has been a family doctor in Stratford ON for 42 yrs and is semiretired and now managing a Nursing home. He is co-founder of COMMIT 9 years ago.

David Knoppert is a retired Neonatal Pharmacist from London, Ontario. In 2014 David joined the Rotary Club of London Hyde Park. In 2017 – 2018 he was Club President and currently serves as Club Secretary. In January 2017 David took his first trip with the group COMMIT to Nicaragua. He is on the COMMIT Executive and is an avid fund raiser, having hit over 6,500 golf balls in 12 hours in 2019 and currently is riding across Canada to raise awareness and funds for the people of Nicaragua.
